Meet RUSSELL!

LUNA - SF

Age: ~ 1 Year Old
Weight: 90 lbs
Breed: Great Pyreneese

Meet Luna! This beautiful, sweet-natured dog faced unimaginable challenges after being hit by a 4-wheeler, and when her family couldn’t afford the costly surgery to repair her leg, they made the difficult decision to surrender her.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Luna received life-changing surgery, and she has made incredible strides on her road to recovery. While she still requires limited activity and continued support to ensure her healing, her progress is nothing short of inspiring.

Luna was recently adopted from us, but sadly her family decided that she was still too much of a puppy. We strongly encourage all potential adopters to realize that time, patience and training are absolutely critical when bringing home a rescue dog. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but giving up is a detriment and a setback for the dog.

Luna is a true gentle giant with the kindest heart. She was spoiled (as she should be!) in her loving foster home and proved to be a delightful companion. Her foster family showered her with the care she deserved, and Luna soaked up every bit of love and attention. While she was living in a home she was house trained and her next family should understand that accidents may happen during the transitional stage of being in a shelter and then being bounced around.

Luna is great with everyone she meets. She lived with multiple dogs of all ages and sizes and did wonderfully. Luna does however have food aggression, which is understandable given her past experiences of being underfed. To ensure her comfort and safety, any future furry siblings will need to be fed separately. This behavior can be worked on with a professional trainer, but her future family must be committed to making it work should there be another dog in the household. With people, Luna shows no signs of food aggression and will happily sit by your side as you enjoy a meal (though she doesn’t receive any table scraps).

Despite all that she has been through, Luna has remained remarkably sweet and trusting. She would thrive in a home that understands her need for patience, continued healing, and lots of affection. Luna will require an x-ray in the future to ensure things are still headed in the right direction and it may be another 6 months before she is fully healed.

ROCCO - NM

Meet Rocco! Rocco was an unclaimed stray at Animal Control, but now he’s ready to find his forever family—a home that can keep up with his big personality and high energy.

Rocco is a lovable mutt with endless enthusiasm and a zest for life! This goofy guy is great with other dogs and is hilariously entertaining when he gets ahold of his toys—his joy is contagious! Rocco still has that irresistible puppy energy, so he’s a bit jumpy and will need a family that can help him learn the ropes with training and structure. His feelings about cats are still unknown, but with his adaptable nature, Rocco might just surprise you.

Meet Misty! Misty is one of five adorable pups who are living proof that second chances change lives. Their brave mama and these babies were owned by someone with substance abuse. A family member intervened to ensure she and her puppies had a brighter future. They contacted our rescue affiliate, BarkPlace4Dogs, and now these cuties are ready to find their way into loving homes!

Believed to have some Australian Shepherd in their DNA, these pups are bursting with energy and charm. They’re sweet as pie, great with other dogs and cats, and eager to explore the world by your side. They’ll need plenty of activity, mental stimulation, socialization, and training to grow into the incredible companions they’re destined to be.

Right now, they’re blank slates, and will need support with all things training, but they are ready to soak up everything you teach them. With an eagerness to please and their intelligence, these pups will thrive with families who understand their breed and are ready to meet their needs.

Meet Rayne! Rayne and her sister Wynter found their way to us after being dumped on a farm. Fortunately the owner of that farm is a friend of our rescue affiliates, BarkPlace4Dogs, and they landed the second chance they deserved.

This beautiful dark brindle baby is just precious. Rayne has a playful personality and she’s proven to be great with kids, dogs, and even cats, making her a well-rounded companion for households of all kinds. Her days are filled with playtime, snuggles, and learning new things.

While she’s still working on potty training, Rayne is eager to learn and will benefit from a family committed to guiding her through puppyhood. With her gentle, affectionate personality, Rayne is full of love and ready to give her forever family all the cuddles and tail wags they could ask for.

While in her foster home she was quite the polite houseguest. She was good with cats, mostly ignoring them, and she’s great with other dogs and would love to have one in her future home. PEPPERMINT - F

Meet Peppermint! This sweet girl is the last of her litter patiently waiting to find her forever home. She was surrendered with her other littermates when their previous owner could no longer care for them.

Peppermint is full energy and loves to bounce around, so be prepared for lots of puppy zoomies! She's met kids and done great with them but she can be a bit jumpy. She does great playing with other dogs and has been around cats, though she sometimes is very eager to play with them.

Peppermint is crate trained and working hard on her potty and leash training. She likes to be around her people, but can entertain herself with toys if you're preoccupied with other kids. With patience and consistency, she’ll continue to learn and grow into well-mannered member of the family.

Peppermint is such a goofy goober and will keep you entertained with her larger than life personality and endless affection.

Peppermint is a loveable and fun little lady and she's ready to join a family prepared for the wonderful chaos of puppyhood. She has been microchipped and is up-to-date on her vaccines and monthly preventatives. This little pistol is excited to get out of the shelter and into your arms.

BURT - NM

Meet Burt, the gentle giant with a heart full of love! Burt is ready to find his forever home after navigating a challenging dynamic with his previous family’s other large male dog in his previous household. As Burt grew into his big-boy paws, the dynamic between the two alpha males became challenging. His family loved him deeply and worked hard to manage the situation, but ultimately, they realized Burt deserved a space where he could truly shine.

Burt is a healthy, happy-go-lucky dog who has been a devoted companion since puppyhood. Adjusting to the kennel environment has been tough, but every day he shows us his playful spirit and sweet nature. His former family shared that he’s incredibly loyal, always following his people around the house. Burt is happy to sleep in his own bed but will never turn down the chance to snuggle up with you if invited.

With his love of veggies, Burt’s favorites include crunchy carrots, sweet potatoes, but will never say no to the occasional chicken treat. He’s a goofy, joyful pup who lives for running around the yard and playing. Plus, he’s fully house-trained, doesn’t need to be crated, and knows his basic commands!

While Burt hasn’t lived with kids, he’s adaptable and would do best in a home with older children (13+). Burt has done well with other dogs but prefers to be the alpha, so a submissive canine companion might be a good fit—though he’d also thrive as your one-and-only. He previously lived with a smaller female dog, and while he loved to play (and sometimes lovingly annoy her), Burt’s large size and big personality are plenty to handle on their own!

Burt’s soulful eyes will melt your heart, and his adorable head tilts when you talk in a silly voice will leave you smiling every day. Burt is just looking for a family who will make him feel safe and cherished.

RUSSELL - NM

Age: ~ 1 - 2 Years Old
Weight: 23 lbs
Breed: Rescued

Meet Russell! Russell originally came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Rutland, VT, where 30+ dogs were found living in terrible conditions. The house was so neglected that its floor collapsed, many of the dogs were overbred and incredibly malnourished. Sadly, because Russell was so starved and had to compete with 30+ other dogs to eat, it makes him very protective over his food when other dogs (not people) are around. While these behaviors can be worked on over time and with a trainer, it would be best for him to be the only dog in the household going forward.

The good news is because Russell is so passionate about food, it makes him very motivated by food. He gets very excited at mealtime and will leap into the air with joy. He’ll need to be reminded to sit politely before he gets to dig in! His previous family was using positive reinforcement training, redirecting unwanted behaviors and rewarding the positive outcomes.

While Russell doesn’t like to share his food with other dogs doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy their company, especially for playtime. He loves to play and plays hard…even being deemed “Russell the Muscle” acting like a big dog in a small dog’s body. Continued socialization will be to his benefit, and every dog deserves to have fun!

Russell is a moderately active boy. A couple of walks a day (he’s great on a leash!) and some backyard activity will keep him quite content. He’s becoming a pro at fetch, and enjoys a good round of tug-of-war. After getting his zoomies out, he loves to nibble on a bone or a yak cheese chew and then snuggle in for a good nap. He absolutely loves to snuggle up to a warm body, especially his best friend’s.

Russell is for the most part potty trained so long as his adopters take him out on a regular schedule. After transitioning from a home back to the shelter though, some accidents may happen during the transition period. He has been working on his crate training, but he doesn’t love it yet. He will go in to eat his meals but he would rather be by your side.

Russell is looking for a stable home without a lot of hustle and bustle. He’d love a yard to run around in, but it isn’t necessary. We do think a home outside of the city will be best for him. He’s keen on being the sole apple of your eye…so that means no other dogs, cats or kids.
